Spiritual Roots Magazine is a quarterly digital magazine featuring exclusive stories about herbalism, traditions, roots, and culture while unapologetically uplifting and helping to heal the community. We aim to shift the diaspora towards truth and self empowerment.

We’re delighted to invite writers, artists, photographers and poets to submit work for publication in Spiritual Roots Magazine.

Diaspora - the dispersion of people away from their ancestral homelands; the movement, migration, or scattering of a people away from an established or traditional place of origin.

At Spiritual Roots Magazine, we value authenticity above everything else. We’re looking for compelling stories about your personal journeys that readers can relate to as well as practical guides to help others learn from your experiences. Stories should have clear messages with endings that will provide a takeaway that serves to inspire our readers. We are looking for brave works that reject the stereotype and shed light on the people of the land and their practices. Our topics include the astrology, spells, sigils, divination, ritual, conjure, tarot, magick, spirituality, herbalism, healing, and everything in between. We want to read them. Submission Guidelines

Please notify us immediately if you need to withdraw a piece because it has been accepted elsewhere.

• All new submissions should include a brief cover letter that includes a short author bio if you haven’t been published in this magazine before.

• We do not accept simultaneous submissions. Multiple submissions will result in all submissions being rejected.

• All text submissions must be in .doc, .docx, pages, or .pdf file format.

• Images may be submitted in .jpg, .tiff, .gif, or .png.

• Original work only, please. Creators retain all rights to their work and agree, by submitting it, to allow Spiritual Roots Magazine to present it on our site (and in it’s archives) until you request that we remove it.

• Submitting an article does not guarantee publication.

Articles + Interviews

We love to publish articles and interviews by writers, artists, filmmakers, activists—anyone doing something interesting and unique in the Diaspora community. All interviews should have an introduction that incorporates a bio of the interviewee, with the interview following in standard interview format (Q & A). All copyrights remain with the author.

Art + Photography

We continuously seek new, unpublished work from photographers and artists as well as look for images that inform, innovate, break stereotypes and speak truth. Include a link to your portfolio site (preferred), or a selection of 3-5 jpg attachments. Make sure that they are full size, high resolution 300dpi images with NO watermark. Should your image(s) be selected to appear in Spiritual Roots Magazine, a member of the staff will contact you to make further arrangements for publication.

Poets

Please submit 5-7 poems at a time. We’re looking for work that is bold, enlightening, emotionally charged, and spiritual.

Advertisers

We’ll do our best to further promote your piece across our social networks. If you can also share it across your own social networks that would be great since the more it gets shared the more likely your work will be featured in our Top Articles widget and then into our newsletter.

Compensation

Spiritual Roots Magazine is a newly independent publication. We are unable to pay contributors at this time, but we do intend to offer it in the near future. We also provide the opportunity to reach a global audience by including a brief profile on each piece we publish. We also provide all contributor’s digital copies and strive to continuously promote the work of those we publish when they are published elsewhere. Above all, writers retain copyright to their own work. We are also working towards having a printed version soon that will require a subscription.
